Utility cleaner

The utility cleaner works in the officers’s area and public outlets. He/she is responsible for cleaning and sanitation of these areas. He/she is also responsible for maintenance and equipment used in this area. He/she is supervised by the housekeeper. He/she has an understanding of U.S.P.H. rules and regulations and must attend all mandatory safety drills.

Tailor

The tailor works in the laundry/tailor area. He/she is responsible for tailor activities for both passengers, and crew such as: repair of clothes, curtains, linen uniforms etc… He/she must have previous work experience in this field. He/she must participate in all mandatory safety drills.

Linen keeper

The linen keeper is supervised by the housekeeper. He/she is reponsible for items such as: laundry, linen, towels, and uniforms of officers and crew. He/she handles all requisitions and distribution of these items. He/she works closely together with the laundry/housekeeping department onboard. He/she is responsible of cleanliness and sanitation in his/her work enviroment. He/she must have an understanding of U.S.P.H. rules and regulations. He/she must partcipate in all mandatory safety drills onboard.

Assistant cabin steward/ess

The assistant cabin steward/ess is supervised by the cabin steward/ess and the housekeeper. He/she is responsible for all cleanliness of the passenger cabins/suits/penthouses. He/she is responsible for cleanliness in all housekeeping areas and pantries. He/she is responsible for all cleaning equipment and eventually maintenance of cleaning equipment. He/she resports to the housekeeper needs of repairwork in the housekeeping department. He/she assists the passengers with laundry requests. He/she has good communication and social skills. He/she must have a good understanding of U.S.P.H. rules and regulations. He/she must participate in all mandatory safety drills. The position equals to chambermaid in a hotel.

Stewardess

The number of persons working in the housekeeping department depends on the num­ber of passengers and size of the ship. A normal day will include the fol­­­lowing activities: Morning: cleaning of public areas; toilets, reception, va­cuum cleaning of the bar and loun­ge. Cleaning the passengers cabins and bath­­rooms, making the beds, changing to­wels, vacuum cleaning. Laundry (to­wels, uniforms, staff clot­hing) must also be done during the day. Af­ternoon (lunch): washing of lunch dishes, polishing and sorting of knives, forks and spoons, cleaning the dishwasher and coffee pantry. Eve­ning (dinner): pre­pa­ra­tion of passengers cabins for the night, cleaning of pu­blic toilets, the points men­­tioned above (lunch).Every day an extra activity must be performed in the pas­­senger cabins, such as clea­ning the windows, cleaning walls in public areas, cabins and bath­rooms, or cleaning the shower curtains. Remaining ac­ti­vi­­ties include: coun­ting and sorting laundry, as­sis­ting when laundry is to be de­­li­vered or picked up, maintaining machinery and- wor­king materials, as­sis­ting when provisions are delivered.

Head cabin stewardess

The head cabin steward/ess is supervised by the assistant chief housekeeper. The head cabin steward/ess supervises the cabin steward/esses and the asst. cabin steward/esses. He/she is responsible of all designated cabins/ suits/penthouses. He/she ensures to all that there is a high service level to all passenger attendance, high service level to all cabin/suits/penthouses and all cleaning activities. He/she delegates on daily/weekly base all cleaning tasks. He/she supervises the cleanliness of the entire housekeeping department. He/she handles requisitions and ordering of all housekeeping items. He/she supervises equipment and maintenance of housekeeping equipment. He/she is responsible of training of all new housekeeping personnel. He/she needs good communication skills He/she has a good understanding of U.S.P.H. rules and regulations. He/she must participate in all mandatory safety drills.

Assistant chief housekeeper

The assistant chief housekeeper is supervised by the chief housekeeper. He/she assists the chief housekeeper in day to day operations in the housekeeping department. He/she supervises: the housekeeper, cabin stewar­desses, stateroom stewardesses, and asst. cabin stewardesses. He/she super­vises and controls high service level to passenger attendance, high service level to cabin cleaning, high service level to all cleaning duties. He/she super­vises and controls the cleanliness of all service/housekeeping pantries. He/she is responsible for equipment and maintenance of equipment in the house­keeping area. He/she handles all adminstrative duties such as: requisition and ordering of items used in the housekeeping department: cleaning material, cabin supplies, beverages, etc.. He/she is responsible for manning schedules and work schedules of all he/she supervises. He/she is responsible of training in his/her respective field. He/she must have a good knowledge of U.S.P.H. rules and regulations. He/she must participate in all mandatory safety drills
